Der Reichsdramaturg Dr. Rainer Schlösser schreibt in seinem Gutachten an Hans Hinkel: "The whole thing is a kind of 'solace of Judaism', a kind of 'restorative' for Jews. In itself, the play is not tendentious and would be harmless if one had performed it during the last Reich.The Third Reich, however, has recognised Judaism in its imminent danger, thus making the matter appear quite objectionable, especially since the play's background is a Russian rabble of soldiers which mistreats Jewry. One can imagine with whom the suggested Cossacks will be identified."

Der Kulturbund plante eine Aufführung des Stücks im September 1933 und musste dafür über Hinkel die Erlaubnis des Reichsdramaturgen einholen, was Kurt Singer übernahm.
